This is after the rains last Sonday coming home after church. Not only is there little traffic on the roads , but very few people are walking in the rains. The going is slow since one does not know the depth of the water nor what debris might be hidden in the waters. There were very few Haitians in the church last Sonday morning.
The orphans from across the mountains, now staying in a home behind the school, came a few times to the school to play on the grass. When asked where they play during the day, the reply was we play soccer in our rooms. The school is truly blessed in having a field like this and therefore we have special days like the Fall BBQ for the school families, to develop fellowship and enjoy the school grounds.
Pictured here is our grade 6 teacher and the board chairman barbecuing the more than 250 chicken pieces for the families who attended this Fall event. Call a sports day, and include soccer games, then both the parents and their children will attend. The Parent Action Committee works hard at developing community - an essential ingredient for the Christian school.
The refreshment booth was manned by two national workers. It is a real treat to receive pop with ice as a refresher. During special events, that is the only time pop is found on the school grounds. The free pop, free lunch of rice and chicken or hot dogs always is an incentive for the families to come to school on a Saturday. The event started at 9:30 and provided lunch, but at 3 PM, there were still games being played. As always, the day was a hit! The parents also brought clothes, food, toys and monies for the relief of the hurricane victims.
