The Walls
By city ordinance, the walls in various places have to be moved. So today I have a few pictures about the walls in various places which need to be moved at owners cost - about 2 metres on average. The debris from the wall also has to be removed at the owner's cost. A very costly business. This is all done to make room for sidewalks, which will be later occupied by vendors.

Workers here are loading the truck with the remains of the old wall. Many Haitians earn their wages by shoveling a truck load full.




Here you can see the wall behind the wall at a Roman Catholic church. The new wall is not only higher than the previous wall but just as nice. Many a wall will be made from cement blocks rather than the natural stones to keep the cost down.



Yes, these walls too need to be moved! This is a make work project. If the work does not start, the city will just come and destroy the wall.
