These men are unloading telephone poles from the truck. The school soccer field is being used by friends of QCS - parents and former parents of QCS and invited guests - and they are paying for the installation and upkeep of lights for the soccer field. Soon it will be dark here by 5 PM andthey will not be able to play soccer without lights. It took more than one day to dig two holes - the ground is nothing but rock, rock and more rock. No jack hammers here.

Today was beautification day at the school and the students - about 50 strong - came to help clean up the campus. They planted plants, went through the recycled paper as shown here to separate one sided printed paper from two-sided printed paper. The one side will be given to a Haitian school for them to use. Each HS students needs to earn 30 service hours per year in order to graduate. Today they had a chance to increase their hours.

This past week was Spirit Week at school. Thursday was the initiation of the freshmen as shown here. They were given a shower of water. It was a great way to end the school week together. Friday was report card day and so there was no school for the students. There were parent teacher conferences so the parents could come to the school to pick up the report cards and talk with selected teachers. This is our form of mail service - to make sure the parents get the report cards as Haiti has no organized mail service.

Here is a child about 8 months old with a severe abcess on her arm. She also had other abcesses on other parts of her body. Mary and Kez, another nurse that goes to the ravine checked this baby out and advised her mother to see a doctor. This is the third week that we have seen the baby with different abcesses. She may be HIV+, we need to have her tested to see what medications she will need in the future. Most of the people in the ravine cannot afford to see a doctor. They don't know that there is free program to treat HIV+ children. We will see what happens after the testing.
