Last Sonday this was one of the many bands which marched up Delmas, the main street beside the school compound. The band is part of the preparation for Mardis Gras, which will be happening in three weeks. During the last week in February, there is no school since that is the carnival time.
When Janis was with us she cleaned up our yard with pruning the plants and more. Here are the results of some plantings. They took! The one is a Moringa tree from India. May it grow in the soils here at school. The trees are excellent - the leaves, flowers and pods are a food source, the flowers are a good nectar source for honey, the seeds are a rich soil source for cooking, the roots are a source for a spice like horse radish and many parts of the plant are used for medicinal preparations.
This was a shock one Sonday morning - the walls just built surrounding the property came tumbling down. So the story goes, that these walls were built by a person who did not have legimate title to the property. After the walls were built, some tractors came and pushed all the walls down. Today, even the metal gates from the the entry ways to the property were gone.
