This was the scene on Main Delmas and Delmas 75, (our corner) on Good Friday. There were 1000's of people walking up the main road, singing songs of praises and stopping at the church across the street. It was one of the stations of the cross. The people continued their pilgrimage to the remaining stations. At various locations there were 'scenes' portrayed by people of that station as well as pictures on the road made with coloured beans and flowers. Leading the procession was a man carrying the cross. Police directed the traffic.

We attended the Sonrise service of the Port-au-Prince Fellowship church at 6 AM at the look out point on the mountain. This English speaking church invited the other English churches to attend. Together we worshipped our risen Saviour - truly a mountain top experience. Afterwards we went to the deBlaeij's for breakfast with the Fernhouts who came along with us.

This was the scene from the lookout point. In the distance you can see the American hospital ship (the white dot) - the USS Comfort - at anchor in the bay. It is an old medical war ship. Students of Quisqueya are picked up each day by bus and escorted by police to be interpreters for the medical staff between the Haitian patients before they go on the ship to receive their surgery or medical services. The highschool students need to do 30 service hours each year as part of their graduation. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get their service hours in.

This is a shot of the mercy ship called the USS Comfort from the look out point. After Haiti she will continue to makes other ports of call towards South America. The ship is three football fields long and as tall as a ten storey building. It has 12 operating rooms, 1000 hospital beds, five dental rooms, modern scanners and MRI's. It has enough boats and helicopters to transport hundreds of patients a day. There are more than 400 civilian volunteers aboard and doctors from Canada, France, Chile, the Netherlands. The US military personnel come from the four services and the coast guard. The sister ship is the USS Mercy based in San Diego.
